This page is one of a series showing images from a 13
night transatlantic positioning cruise on
Celebrity Eclipse
in April 2012 from Miami to
Southampton.
Celebrity Eclipse
is a Solstice-class cruise ship, operated by
Celebrity Cruises. She is the
sister ship of
Celebrity
Solstice and
Celebrity Equinox,
which entered service in November 2008 and July 2009, respectively.
Celebrity Eclipse
measures 122,000 gross tons and carries 2,852 passengers (double occupancy)
plus crew.
Two further ships Celebrity Silhouette (Meyer yard number 679) and
Celebrity Reflection (Meyer yard number 691) were delivered
in 2011 and 2012.
Celebrity Eclipse sailed
from Southampton during Summer 2010 offering itineraries in the
Mediterranean and Northern Europe. She returned to sailing from
Southampton in Summers 2011 and 2102, sailing from Miami in the winters.
In response to the shutdown of UK airspace due to the eruption of Iceland's
Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the newly completed
Celebrity Eclipse was used to
rescue 2000 British tourists stranded in Spain as "an act of goodwill" by
the owners. The ship departed from Southampton for Bilbao on April 21, and
returned on April 23. Celebrity Eclipse
official maiden voyage was on April 29, 2010, departing Southampton to Cobh,
Ireland.

This page
is devoted to postcards and photographs of the SNCF ship
Chartres
of 1974.
Chartres was delivered from Dubigeon-Normandie
SA in 1974, and initially used as a freight ferry between Dover
and Dunkerque. During the summer she ran as a car and passenger
ferry between Dover to Calais or Boulogne, returning to the Dover-Dunkerque
freight route during the winter. She covered for regular ship
overhauls on the Newhaven-Dieppe route twice in 1975/76. In May
1982 Chartres moved to the Newhaven route, with occasional
winter stints back at Dunkerque. In 1990, Chartres returned
to eastern channel services from Dover/Folkestone to Calais/Boulogne,
with new ALA (Angleterre-Lorraine-Alsace) colours.
Chartres was sold to Agapitos
Lines in 1993 as Express Santorini. In 1999 she was sold
to Minoan Flying Dolphins, for Hellas Ferries, later rebranded
Hellenic Seaways, all the while retaining the name
Express
Santorini. She has been chartered for summer
services in the Azores since 2007.
