- Grand Princess was P&O/Princess Cruises'
largest ship at delivery, 109000grt in size and carrying around
2600 passengers (3300 maximum capacity). She is the first of
four sisters being built by Fincantieri in Italy, and entered
service in 1998. The second sistership, the Golden Princess, joins the Princess fleet in 2001,
followed by Star
Princess in
2002. The fourth ship will be delivered to the P&O Cruises
fleet in 2004, to serve the UK fly-cruise market.

I was in Lisbon on P&O's Aurora third scheduled cruise
(although the first had been abandoned after 18 hours). Grand
Princess was on her positioning cruise from the Caribbean
to the Mediterranean, where she spends the summer on a fixed
itinerary between Barcelona and Istanbul. She left before Aurora,
at 18:00hrs, and past us in beautiful evening sunlight. Following
the delivery of Golden
Princess, Grand
Princess switched to a year round Caribbean itinerary.
