Viking Saga

Maldon Excursion Boat (Essex)

Viking Saga was built locally in 1947 for local harbour work. She subsequently served elsewhere around the country, including Wales and Scotland, before returning c.2001. In 1989-1995 she was operating for the Crockford family in Tenby.

After a complete restoration to an extremely high standard she has been operating cruises from Maldon and neighbouring ports. Most public trips are one hour excursions from Maldon Promenade out past Heybridge towards Osea Island then back in the opposite direction past Hythe Quay. Viking Saga is maintained in absolutely immaculate condition, as shown in the photos, and a cruise on her is highly recommended as being the best way to view Hythe Quay with its attractive fleet of Thames sailing barges. Charters are also available to private parties. Services are dependent upon tides, so check the website www.vikingsaga.pafweb.net. Viking Saga is listed on the UK National Historic Ships Register.
