Darli

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the small Croatian cruise ship Darli, built as the Norwegian ferry Hardangerfjord in 1959 for the Hardanger Sunnhordlandske Dampskipselskap.

Hardangerfjord was a significant addition to the local Norwegian fjord fleet, being the first small ro-ro ferry with a full car deck. She had both stern and side loading facilities. At a time when fjord roads were still poor, such ferries revolutionised local transport. Subsequently almost all have disappeared, being replaced by better roads, fast catamarans, and shorter ferry routes linking the new roads. Hardangerfjord was built by AS Stord Verft at Stord, and was 883 gross tons, and 175.5 feet long. She was capable of 14 knots (quite fast for such vessels at the time) and ran on the Odde express route from Bergen. She was sold in November 1982 to Fylksbaatane i Sogn og Fjordane and renamed Firda (after briefly being Hardangerfjord I). In 1989 she passed to Aaren Nilsen Shipping for use on tourist services and was renamed Brand.

Darli was purchased by Croatian owners Dami Boats in Rijeka an April 2004 and spent almoust two years being rebuilt. During 2006 Darli had an itinerary in the north and south Adriatic including Dubrovnik. From March to November 2007 she operates a 7-night Croatian circuit from Sibenek calling at Split, Vis, Korcula, Dubrovnik, Mljet, Hvar and Trogir.
