Dart Line
1996-2006

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of Dart Line, which operate from Dartford on the Thames to Zeebruuge and Vlissingen.

Dart Line started trading in January 1996, after it had taken over the Vlissingen-Dartford route from Sally Line, using the Dart 2 and the Sally Euroway. Dart Line expanded its services on the English Channel by starting a second service between Zeebrugge and Dartford in April 1997.

In spring 1999 Jacobs Holding Plc, later Dart Line Ltd, bought three ro-ro's from the China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO). The ships, Dart 8, Dart 9 and Dart 10 were built in 1980 in the yard of Kawaskai Heavy Industries in Japan.

The first renamed ship, the Dart 8, came into service on the Zeebrugge-Dartford route on 11 August 1999 and would be followed by the Dart 9 in September. On the Vlissingen route the Bazias-class ships Dart 3 and Dart 4 maintain a twice-daily service to and from Vlissingen.

In 2006, Dart Line were acquired by Cobelfret, along with its terminals and ships Dart 3, Dart 4, Dart 8 and Dart 9. Dart 3 and Dart 4 were renamed Phocine and Cervine. Dart 8 and Dart 9 were renamed Serpentine and Aquiline.
