Tatra built 24 T6A2M trams for Rostock in1989 and 1990, numbered 601-624. Six trailers were also supplied in 1990, numbered 801-806. The first twelve trams 601-612 entered service between February and September 1990 (in reverse numerical order). The second twelve, 613-624, joined them between July and October 1991. The Tatra T6 trams could run in multiple pairs and in the mid-1990s were modernised and renumbered as 701-712 (leading vehicles) and 801-812 (trailing vehicles). Following the delivery of the Bombardier trailers in 2001-2003 (751-762 & 851-860), each Tatra T6 tows a single low-floor trailer.

22 low floor trailers were built by Bombardier to run with the modernised Tatra trams. Whilst the trailers are of an attractive design, they do not match the Tatras and the combination looks most ungainly.

Most Rostock trams are of the 70% low-floor class 6NGTWDE, manufactured by Deutsche Waggonbau AG/Düwag (now Siemens). 40 vehicles, 30.1m long and 2.3m wide. The axle arrangement is B+1-1+B with bogies under each end section and two single axles under the centre section.
